County guides · tax year 2027

Business personal property tax, county by county.

Every number on these pages is pulled from the same sourced jurisdiction data Rendition files from — statute, appraiser page or published schedule, with the date we last checked it. Pick a state, then your county.

What a rendition is

Thirty-odd states tax the equipment a business owns — furniture, kitchen and machinery, computers, signage, sometimes inventory — as business personal property. Each year the owner reports what it owned on January 1 and what it cost; the county depreciates it on a published schedule, applies any exemption, and bills tax at the combined local rate. Texas calls the report a rendition (Form 50-144), Florida a tangible personal property return (DR-405), Georgia a business personal property return (PT-50P).

The rules that decide what you owe — the due date, the extension, the exemption threshold, the depreciation table, the penalty and the protest window — are set partly by the state and partly by the county appraiser. The guides here separate the two and cite each.
